Curriculum Vitae

Eleonora Faggiano is Associate Professor in Didactics and History of Mathematics (S.S.D. MATH-01/B) and has been teaching Mathematics and Didactics of Mathematics at the University of Bari Aldo Moro since 2005. Her research interests mainly concern the use of digital and non-digital resources in the teaching-learning of Mathematics and in the training of Mathematics teachers at all levels.

Research interests and List of publications

She graduated in Mathematics from the University of Bari in 1999. In 2001, she was certified to teach Mathematics and Physics in upper secondary schools.

In March 2005, she obtained a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Bari, discussing a thesis in Educational Technology on Computer Science applied to the Teaching of Mathematics entitled "A framework for supporting Web-based Cooperative Learning" (supervisor prof. V.L. Plantamura - Univ. of Bari, co-rapporteurs prof. Roselli - Univ. of Bari and prof. E. Sutinen - Univ. of Joensuu, Finland).

From 2005 to 2021 she was Assistant Professor for the S.S.D. MAT/04 (Matematiche Complementari) at the University of Bari.

She is a member of the Editorial Board of Springer's MEDE (Mathematics Education in the Digital Era) series.

She is Guest Editor (with E. Geraniou, J. Medova, M. Turgut) of the Special Issue on Digital Experiences in University Mathematics Education: Advances and Expectations of the International Journal of Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education.

She is co-chair, member of the scientific committee and chair of the LOC, of the 17th ERME Topic Conference MEDA4 to be held in Bari, Italy, 3-6 September 2024.

She was co-editor of a volume in the Routledge European Research in Mathematics Education series entitled "Mathematica Education in the Digital Age: Learning, Practice and Theory", published in 2020.

She was co-editor of a volume in Springer's MEDEra series entitled 'Innovation and technology enhancing mathematics education' published in 2017.

She was co-chair, member of the scientific committee and co-editor of the proceedings for three editions of the ERME Topic Conference MEDA held in 2018 in Copenhagen, in 2020 remotely from Linz, in 2022 in Nitra.

She has been co-leader of TWG 16 - Learning Mathematics with Technology and Other Resources - in four successive editions of the Congress of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (CERME) held in Dublin in 2017, in Utrecht in 2019, in Bolzano (remotely) in 2021 and in Budapest in 2022, and is also co-leader for the next edition to be held in Bolzano in 2025.

She was a Team Member of Topic Study Group 3.8 - 'The role and the use of technology in the teaching and learning of mathematics at upper secondary and tertiary level' - of the 15th International Congress on Mathematics Education held in Sydeny from 7 to 14 July 2024.

She was a member of the International Scientific Committee of the international conferences ICTMT12, ICTMT13, ICTMT14, ICTMT15 and ICTMT16, which were held in Portugal in 2015, in France in 2017, in Germany in 2019, and in Denmark in 2021, in Greece in 2023, respectively.

She is a reviewer for the International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology IJMEST (Taylor and Francis), for the Journal of Mathematica Behavior (Elsevier), and for ZDM (Springer).

She was Guest Editor of the Special Issue on ICTMT11 of the journal TEAMAT (Oxford University Press) in 2014.

She is a member of the Doctoral Board of the PhD Program in "Computer Science and Mathematics" (since Cycle XXXVII) and tutor of a PhD student of Cycle XXXIX at the University of Bari Aldo Moro.

She is a member of the Doctoral Board (Cycle XXXIX and XL)and tutor of a PhD student(Cycle XXXIX)of the National Doctorate Program in "Learning Sciences and Digital Technologies" based in Unimore.

She was a member of the Doctoral Board of the PhD Program in "History and Didactics of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry" (Cycle XXIV) established in 2010 at the University of Palermo and a member of the Doctoral Board and tutor of a PhD student of the PhD Program in "Informatics and Mathematics" (Cycle XXIX) at the University of Bari Aldo Moro.

She is the scientific coordinator for the University of Bari of a national project on STEM education at the lower secondary school level (Next-Land), external partner of a KA220-SCH (cooperation partnership in school education) Erasmus+ project (GIFTED), scientific supervisor of a 3-years university research project funded by EU (MaThIn4MER) and participates in a project funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technologies (TecTeachers).

Since 2010 she has been responsible for the GeoGebra Institute in Bari.

Since 2023 she has been an elected member of the Board of the UMI Licei Matematici Group.

In the academic years 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 she collaborated in the mathematics activities managed by the Local Unit of the National Project Scientific Degrees and in the academic years 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 she was a member of the Operating Unit of Bari for the PRIN PBBWNT2008 Project on the training of teachers of Mathematics. Since 2016 she has participated in the activities of the National Project PLS at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Bari, in particular since 2018 she has been in charge of the part related to teacher training.

She has been a member of the Bari Section of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Computer Science in the Training sector from 2001 to 2005, since 2003 she is a member of the Italian Mathematical Union U.M.I., since 2017 she is a member of the GNSAGA Research Group of the National Institute of High Mathematics (INDAM).

She is a member of AIRDM (Italian Association for Research in Didactics of Mathematics) since its foundation in 2012 and of SIRD (Italian Society for Research in Didactics) since 2019.

She was part of the Organising Secretariat and edited (together with three other people) the Proceedings of the National Conference 'Teaching Mathematics in the School of All and Everyone' held in Bari in February 2004.

She was a member of the Scientific and Organising Committee of the National Conference "La formazione degli insegnanti di matematica: i tempi, i modi, i luoghi" held in Bari in February 2012 and of the International Conference ICTMT11 (11th International Conference on Technology in Mathematics Teaching) held in Bari from 9 to 12 July 2013, of which he is one of the two Editors of the Proceedings.

Since 1999 she has held, and still holds, numerous in-service training courses for teachers in Apulian schools of all levels.

Eleonora Faggiano è Professore Associato in Didattica e Storia della Matematica (S.S.D. MATH-01/B), insegna Matematica e Didattica della Matematica presso l’Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro dal 2005. I suoi interessi di ricerca riguardano prevalentemente l'utilizzo di risorse digitali e non nell'insegnamento apprendimento della Matematica e nella formazione degli insegnanti di Matematica di ogni ordine e grado.

Si è laureata in Matematica presso l’Università degli Studi di Bari nel 1999. Nel 2001 ha conseguito l’abilitazione all’insegnamento della matematica e della fisica nelle scuole secondarie superiori.

Nel marzo 2005 ha conseguito, presso l’Università di Bari, il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in Informatica discutendo una tesi in Educational Technology sull’Informatica applicata alla Didattica della Matematica dal titolo “A framework for supporting Web-based Cooperative Learning” (relatore prof. V.L. Plantamura – Univ. di Bari, co-relatori prof.ssa T. Roselli – Univ. di Bari e prof. E. Sutinen – Univ. of Joensuu, Finland).

Dal 2005 al 2021 è stata Ricercatore per il S.S.D. MAT/04 (Matematiche Complementari) presso l’Università degli Studi di Bari.

È membro dell'Editorial Board della serie MEDE (Mathematics Education in the Digitale Era) della Springer.

È stata co-leader del TWG 16 - Learning Mathematics with Technology and Other Resources - in quattro successive edizioni del Congress of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (CERME) che si sono tenute a Dublino nel 2017, a Utrecht nel 2019, a Bolzano (in remoto) nel 2021 e a Budapest nel 2022, e lo è anche per la prossima edizione che si terrà a Bolzano nel 2025.

È stata Team Member del Topic Study Group 3.8 - "The role and the use of technology in the teaching and learning of mathematics at upper secondary and tertiary level" - del 15th International Congress on Mathematics Education che si è tenuto a Sydeny dal 7 al 14 luglio 2024.

È stata membro del Collegio del Dottorato in "Storia e Didattica delle Matematiche, della Fisica e della Chimica" (XXIV Ciclo) istituito nel 2010 presso l'Università degli Studi di Palermo e membro del Collegio del Dottorato in "Informatica e Matematica" (XXIX Ciclo) e Tutor di un dottorando presso l'Università di Bari Aldo Moro.

È coordinatore scientifico per l'Università di Bari di un progetto nazionale sull'educazione STEM a livello di scuola secondaria inferiore (Next-Land), partner esterno di un progetto Erasmus+ KA220-SCH (partenariato di cooperazione nell'educazione scolastica) (GIFTED), supervisore scientifico di un progetto di ricerca universitaria triennale finanziato dall'UE (MaThIn4MER) e partecipa a un progetto finanziato dalla Fondazione portoghese per la scienza e la tecnologia (TecTeachers).

Dal 2010 è responsabile del GeoGebra Institute di Bari.

Dal 2023 è membro eletto della Giunta del Gruppo UMI Licei Matematici.

Negli anni accademici 2005/2006 e 2006/2007 ha collaborato alle attività di matematica gestite dall’Unità Locale del Progetto Nazionale Lauree Scientifiche e negli anni accademici 2010/2011 e 2011/2012 è stata membro della Unità Operativa di Bari per il Progetto PRIN PBBWNT2008 sulla formazione degli insegnanti di Matematica. Dal 2016 partecipa alle attività del Progetto Nazionale Lauree scientifiche presso il Dipartimento di Matematica dell'Università di Bari, in particolare dal 2018 cura la parte relativa alla formazione docenti.

È stata membro della Sezione di Bari del Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per l’Informatica nel settore Formazione dal 2001 al 2005, dal 2003 è membro dell'Unione Matematica Italiana U.M.I., dal 2017 è aderente al Gruppo di Ricerca GNSAGA dell'Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica.

È socio dell'AIRDM (Associazione Italiana di Ricerca in Didattica delle Matematica) dalla sua fondazione nel 2012 e della SIRD (Società Italiana di Ricerca in Didattica) dal 2019.

Ha fatto parte della Segreteria Organizzativa ed ha curato (assieme ad altre tre persone) gli Atti del Convegno Nazionale “Insegnare la Matematica nella scuola di tutti e di ciascuno” che si è tenuto a Bari nel febbraio del 2004.

Ha fatto parte del Comitato Scientifico e di quello Organizzatore del Convegno Nazionale "La formazione degli insegnanti di matematica: i tempi, i modi, i luoghi" che si è tenuto a Bari a Febbraio 2012 e del Convegno Internazionale ICTMT11 (11th International Conference on Technology in Mathematics Teaching) che si è tenuto a Bari dal 9 al 12 Luglio 2013 e di cui è uno dei due Editor dei Proceedings.

Sin dal 1999 ha tenuto, e tutt’ora tiene, numerosi corsi di formazione in servizio per insegnanti, presso le scuole pugliesi di ogni ordine e grado.
