Eleonora Faggiano is currently Associate Professor in Mathematics Education at the Department of Mathematics of the University of BARI ALDO MORO (Italy) From March 2005 to April 2021, she was Assistant Professor (SSD MAT/04 – Complementary Mathematics) at the University of Bari Aldo Moro. In 2025 she obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor (SC 01/A1, SSD MATH‑01/B – Didactics and History of Mathematics).
She teaches foundations and didactics of mathematics across bachelor’s and master’s programmes, supervising more than 30 theses since 2005. In 2023 and 2025 she taught the doctoral‑level course “Theories and research methods in STEM education” within the accredited PhD programme in Computer Science and Mathematics.
Her research focuses on digital technologies in mathematics teaching and learning, teacher professional development, interdisciplinarity, and STEM/STE(A)M education. She collaborates with international research groups and has held visiting positions in several European institutions. She coordinates multiple Erasmus+ mobility agreements and, since 2025, serves as Department Erasmus Delegate.
She has authored over 90 scientific publications in indexed journals, book chapters, edited volumes and proceedings of major international conferences, including CERME, ICTMT, ICME, PME and MEDA. She served as Co‑Leader of CERME Thematic Working Group 16 (Learning Mathematics with Technology and Other Resources) from CERME10 (in 2017) to CERME14 (in 2025), and Co‑Leader of the Topic Study Group on technology in upper‑secondary and tertiary mathematics education at ICME‑15 (2024) and ICME‑16 (2028). She has co‑chaired all MEDA ERME Topic Conferences since their inception in 2018 and has been a member of the ICTMT International Program Committee since 2013.
Her editorial roles include co‑editing major volumes such as “Mathematics Education in the Digital Age” (Routledge, 2021), “Innovation and Technology Enhancing Mathematics Education” (Springer, 2017), several MEDA proceedings, and the forthcoming Routledge volume “Mathematics Education in the Age of Generative AI”. She has served as Guest Co‑Editor for special issues of IJRUME and TEAMAT and is an Editorial Board Member of the Springer “Mathematics Education in the Digital Era “series.
She has co‑supervised a PhD thesis in Mathematics and currently supervises two PhD students in Mathematics Education at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, as well as a doctoral student at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz. She has served as referee or committee member for PhD evaluations in Italy and Mexico, including CINVESTAV’s pre‑doctoral examination board.
Her project involvement includes serving as PI for the University of Bari in the Erasmus+ partnership STEaiM CT (2025–2028); contributing to the FCT‑funded project (competitive-call) TecTeachers (2023–2025) and, from 2026, to its extension AI‑TecTeachers; leading the PON‑funded project MaTIn4MER (2022–2024); acting as External Partner PI for the Erasmus+ GIFTED project (2022–2025); and serving as Scientific Coordinator for the University of Bari Aldo Moro in the national STEM initiative NEXT LAND (2022–2025).

Eleonora Faggiano è attualmente Professore Associato di Didattica della Matematica presso il Dipartimento di Matematica dell'Università di BARI ALDO MORO (Italia). Da marzo 2005 ad aprile 2021 è stata Ricercatore (SSD MAT/04 – Matematiche Complementari) presso l'Università di Bari Aldo Moro. Nel 2025 ha ottenuto la Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale da Professore Ordinario (SC 01/A1, SSD MATH-01/B – Didattica e Storia della Matematica).
Insegna fondamenti e didattica della matematica nei corsi di laurea triennale e magistrale, supervisionando oltre 30 tesi dal 2005. Nel 2023 e 2025 ha insegnato il corso di dottorato "Teorie e metodi di ricerca nell'educazione STEM" all'interno del programma accreditato di dottorato in Informatica e Matematica.
La sua ricerca si concentra sulle tecnologie digitali nell'insegnamento e nell'apprendimento della matematica, sullo sviluppo professionale degli insegnanti, sull'interdisciplinarità e sull'educazione STEM/STEM(A)M. Collabora con gruppi di ricerca internazionali e ha ricoperto incarichi da visiting in diverse istituzioni europee. Coordina diversi accordi di mobilità Erasmus+ e, dal 2025, è Delegata Erasmus del Dipartimento.
Ha pubblicato oltre 90 pubblicazioni scientifiche su riviste indicizzate, capitoli di libri, volumi e atti di importanti conferenze internazionali, tra cui CERME, ICTMT, ICME, PME e MEDA. Ha ricoperto il ruolo di Co-Leader del TWG16 (Learning Mathematics with Technology and Other Resources) dal CERME10 (nel 2017) al CERME14 (nel 2025), e di Co-Leader del TSG su “The role and the use of technology in the teaching and learning of mathematics at upper secondary and tertiary level” all'ICME-15 (2024) e ICME-16 (2028). È stata co-chair di tutte le ETC MEDA dalla loro fondazione nel 2018 ed è membro dell’IPC delle conferenze ICTMT dal 2013.
I suoi ruoli editoriali includono la partecipazione come co-editor dei volumi "Mathematics Education in the Digital Age" (Routledge, 2021) e "Innovation and Technology Enhancing Mathematics Education" (Springer, 2017), di diversi atti MEDA e del prossimo volume di Routledge "Mathematics Education in the Age of Generative AI". Ha co-supervisionato una tesi di dottorato in Matematica e attualmente supervisiona due dottorande in Didattica della Matematica presso l'Università di Bari Aldo Moro, oltre a una dottoranda presso l'Università Johannes Kepler di Linz. Ha svolto il ruolo di referee o membro di commissioni per valutazioni di dottorato in Italia e della commissione d'esame pre-dottorale del CINVESTAV in Messico.
